Pyrite means "flint" because it sparks when struck and was used to make fire in the Stone Age.

Mineralogy: Chalcedony-pyrite mixture (trigonal/cubic, primary)

Pyrite should only be brought into direct contact with the skin for short periods of time, as it secretes black iron sulphide on prolonged contact (especially with sweat), which irritates the skin and stains clothing. It is best used for meditation or placed in a place where you can look at it regularly.
